What is the Voka Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen?
The Voka Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen (VCDO) is a track run by the Flemish business network Voka in which companies work on sustainable entrepreneurship year by year. Companies draw up an action plan, carry out actions and report on them within Voka's guidance.
KURBI is not part of that track and does not determine its content or assessment. We simply offer concrete local biodiversity projects that a company can carry out.
Why local nature and biodiversity can be relevant
Sustainable entrepreneurship is about more than energy and waste. Nature and biodiversity are under pressure, including right next to business parks, villages and farmland. Pollinators, birds, insects and native plants need concrete space.
A biodiversity project in your own region is therefore a recognisable and visible sustainability action: employees, clients and neighbours can literally go and see it.
Which KURBI projects a company can support
You choose a concrete biodiversity project that suits your company. Some examples:
- Flower meadows and flower-rich field margins
- Hedgerows
- High-stem orchards
- Nest boxes
- Insect hotels
- Wildlife ponds, rewilded nature corners and the other KURBI projects
On your own business site as well
Does your company have suitable space of its own — a green zone, a verge or an unused plot on the business park? We are happy to look at whether the project can be realised with you. Whether that works depends on the location, the soil, the management and the ecological fit; we will tell you openly what does and does not make sense.
How KURBI organises the work
KURBI finds a suitable location and the people to carry out the work, plans the installation and follows up maintenance during the project year. Local farmers, landowners and implementation partners help install and maintain the projects. You do not have to arrange materials, land or labour yourself.
What you receive to document your action
Because a sustainability action has to be traceable, KURBI provides information about your project:
- A project sheet describing the chosen project, which you can print or keep as a PDF
- Photos of the work on the ground
- An update on the situation and the maintenance during the project year
- The option to visit the project yourself with employees or clients
VCDO and ESG: the difference in one paragraph
VCDO is a concrete sustainable entrepreneurship track with guidance from Voka. ESG is the broader business context in which companies report on environmental, social and governance topics. In both cases KURBI delivers the same thing: a concrete, documented biodiversity project. We do not provide ESG certification, audits or legal sustainability advice.

KURBI is an independent initiative and does not decide on the recognition or assessment of actions within the Voka Charter Duurzaam Ondernemen. Where needed, discuss with your Voka adviser in advance how a KURBI project can be included in your specific VCDO track.
