How does KURBI work?

Local biodiversity. Simply organised.

Sustainable business doesn't have to be complicated.

KURBI brings companies, farmers and biodiversity together in a simple and transparent model. Every partner takes on a clear role. This way, everyone knows what they are contributing to, who bears which responsibility, and what result is being pursued.

Step 1 - Your company chooses a biodiversity project

Every company chooses for itself which biodiversity project(s) it wants to support.

Depending on availability, you can choose between:

• creation and maintenance of a flower meadow;

• production and installation of nesting boxes;

• installation of a large insect hotel;

• placement of a bird-of-prey lookout post;

• creation of a natural pond;

• creation of wild, untended nature corners;

• natural pest control with Indian Runner ducks;

• conservation of Doornikse Kriel chickens;

• conservation of Bassette Kriel chickens;

• natural grazing with sheep, goats or alpacas;

• support for bee colonies.

Each contribution currently amounts to € 1,000 excluding VAT per year.

This supports one concrete biodiversity project each time.

Step 2 - KURBI organises the implementation

Once you have made your commitment, KURBI takes care of the entire practical organisation.

We coordinate with the farmer or implementation partner involved, plan the work, monitor the implementation and ensure that the chosen biodiversity measure is actually realised and maintained.

As a company, you therefore do not need to concern yourself with practical or technical aspects. We take care of that.

Step 3 - Local farmers & KURBI staff help carry out the projects

KURBI deliberately works together with local farmers. They have the local knowledge, machinery and experience to manage biodiversity measures in a sustainable way. The project does not aim to replace farmers. On the contrary. A significant share of the proceeds flows directly back to the local agricultural sector. This creates an economic model in which biodiversity also contributes to a stronger farming business.

Step 4 - Biodiversity grows

After implementation, the most important part begins. Nature is given the chance to develop further. Flowers attract pollinators. Nesting boxes provide shelter. Natural ponds create new habitats. Wild corners form overwintering places for insects and small animals. Many small measures reinforce one another. Together, they form a biodiverse landscape that becomes richer every year.

Step 5 - Your company receives professional follow-up

Your commitment does not stop after payment. KURBI documents the biodiversity measures carried out and provides the necessary follow-up. Depending on the chosen project, this may include: photos; a description of the work carried out; location details; monitoring; ESG documentation; and/or communication materials your company can use.

This gives you tangible proof of your commitment.

Why does this model work?

Many biodiversity initiatives depend on subsidies or occasional donations. KURBI deliberately chooses a different model. Companies invest annually in concrete biodiversity projects. This creates stable funding that makes it possible not only to establish biodiversity measures, but also to maintain them sustainably.

That is essential. A flower meadow, after all, requires management. Nesting boxes need to be checked. Ponds require follow-up. Biodiversity, too, needs maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Do I buy a piece of land?: No. Your company does not buy land and does not acquire any real or personal right to a plot. You exclusively support the implementation and maintenance of a biodiversity project.

May I visit the location?: Yes. We actively encourage our partners to discover the realised projects for themselves.

Can I combine multiple projects?: Of course. Many companies choose to support several biodiversity measures at the same time.

Can I participate for multiple years?: Yes. Because biodiversity needs time, we encourage long-term commitments.
